My name is Shirley Wei, I have been in the field of reproductive medicine for more than 30 years,
When I attended the World Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology (FIGO) in Singapore back in1990, I saw a British team reported the world’s first test-tube baby with preimplantation diagnosis. I was instantly hooked into the study of this technology. Three years later, I applied to study in the United States at the Department of Human Genetics of Columbia University in New York under the distinguished Dr. Dorothy Warburton, where I learned the concept of inheritance and the latest molecular genetic diagnosis technology. After that I went to the Center for Reproductive Medicine (Center for Reproductive Medicine) of Cornell University and studied under the guidance of Zev Rosenwaks, who is known as the most authoritative physician in endocrinology in the United States. Through the monthly discussion of failed cases (trouble Shooting), that is when I learned the bulk of the knowledge in patient success.
Studying and living in the United States was extremely busy. Because of the different customs and culture, I completely changed my iving habits. For example, taking a taxi in New York was expensive so I took busses instead; I wore sneakers and walked a lot; and started to cook by myself because I wasn’t use to the local diet, hence reduced eating out. I also quit staying up late , develop a regular sleeping schedule. Funny enough, not long after I returned to Taiwan from my study trip in the US, I was able to conceive my first child. At this time, I immediately realized that this may have a causal relationship with the change in my lifestyle. Because I “ate well, slept well, and exercised well”, I was able to conceive naturally.
However, during my pregnancy, I just experienced a period of unsatisfactory transition at work , and I was not in a happy mood. At that time, I didn’t realize that this would also affect the baby. Until a few years later when my son entered elementary school, the teacher told me It reflects that my son’s concentration is not concentrated, and his math score is only 7 points! Later, I took my son to the United States for an examination. The American teacher suggested that my son attend the Second Nature Cascades training course in Oregon. A miraculous thing happened. After the course, my son’s condition gradually improved, and his math score improved from the original 7 points. Become an A+! Later I realized that the prenatal education taught by the Chinese is reasonable. The mother’s emotions are very important during pregnancy. If she is in a bad mood, her metabolism will be bad, which will affect the baby in the womb. In the future, the baby may be prone to nervousness, anxiety, and lack of concentration. concentrated.
After giving birth, my work gradually got on the right track. In 1997, I successfully completed the medical record of Taiwan’s first third-generation test tube; in April 2003, the pregnancy rate of test tube patients in the laboratory of Taian Reproductive Center reached 100%! While I am happy for these patients, I am also deeply motivated by the sense of accomplishment. Only after 2003, Taiwan gradually entered the environment of late marriage and late childbearing, the age of infertile patients gradually increased, and the success rate gradually decreased! At this time, I started to track the blood sugar and metabolism of patients, and found that infertile patients generally had high blood sugar and poor metabolism.
Since I experienced the good pregnancy experience of “eating well, sleeping well, and exercising well” in the early yeard of my practice, I brought these concepts to my patients, and started recommended cycling and weight training courses during the treatment. As my patients adopts these lifestyle changes, my IVF success rate increased and slowly made a name of myself in this industry. Today, I am an owner of four IVF centers in the world and I am proud to not only be able to help families solve their fertility issue I also help them live better healthier lives.
